Future Participants, please read
How it will work
Teens are invited to register for this virtual event.
Registration deadline is midnight, Monday, April 19, 2021.
Without a traditional runway, contestants will show off their fashion designs during a
live streaming of the show on Earth Day, April 22, 2021 from 3:30-5pm.
Supplies & Materials
There are many places you can gather materials and supplies. Here are some ideas of possible places to gather materials: Stepping Stones Thrift Store or other local thrift shops, yard sales, recycling bin, your personal closet, and family or friends' unwanted clothing (Please get permission first before you start cutting up yours or other people's clothing!). Some supplies and materials will be provided by the Young Adult Department courtesy of the Art Resource Center in Tempe, AZ. After you have registered as a participant in the Fashion Show, supply kits will be available to pick-up in the PVPL Young Adult Department beginning on Monday, March 15, 2021. Supplies are limited. First come, first served.
Create Your Design
Materials and supplies used to create your fashion design must consist of at least 75% post-consumer used materials. When using recyclable materials, make sure they are clean and safe to use. For re-purposed fabric and old clothing, the new garments must be distinctly different than the originally used items. For example, the fabric of a used shirt can be re-purposed to create a new type of garment element other than a shirt; a ruffled skirt fabric from a dress must be used for something other than a skirt.
All garments must be secure and durable in construction.
The Fashion Show Participant may choose to be their own model or they can arrange to have someone else be their model. If the designer chooses someone else to be their model for their designs, that model must also be between ages 12-18 years old.
In addition to the design submission, the participant is responsible for providing a brief personal introduction, title (if any) of their project, and description of their design. The description of the project can include information such as where the materials used were sourced from, what was the process in creating the design, favorite part(s) of the design, or specific challenges in the creation process. Any other aspects of the process you would like to share are also welcome. You can speak for yourself or you can choose to have the host read submitted information.
Consider Your "Environment"
In addition to the fashion design created, contestants will also be responsible for the setting and background for their submission. The environment around the model can be in the form of an original digital background or a physical background using the same recyclable material guidelines of being at least 75% post-consumer materials.
Music can also be a part of this environment but it is not required.
Judges and Prizes
Each contestant's submission, will be judged on the originality of use of materials, quality of construction, function of design, and the general aesthetic or theme of the design and "environment" created. A panel of four judges will be responsible to make decisions for our top 3 winners. In addition, they may choose some "Honorable Mention" designs for specifically appealing features.
All judges' decisions are final and will be announced at the end of the competition.
After the competition, designers have the optional opportunity to deliver their designs to the Prescott Valley Public Library to be on public display from April 26-May 28, 2021.
